Annapolis, MD - In a trade with the Florida Launch, the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) have acquired midfielder Kevin Crowley and a fourth round 2015 collegiate draft pick. In exchange, Florida received midfielders Steven Brooks, David Earl and Jon Hayes.
Crowley, a 2014 MLL All-Star, was chosen 1st overall by the Hamilton Nationals in the 2011 collegiate draft. Over three years, he notched 112 total points, with 76 goals and 33 assists. In 2013, the midfielder was named MVP of the MLL All-Star Game as well as Player of the Year. He also helped the Nationals secure their best record (9-5) since coming into the league. In the inaugural season for the Florida Launch, Crowley has played in eight games, recording 12 goals and 5 assists for 17 points.
“Kevin Crowley was last year’s league MVP and he has exceptional chemistry playing with Joe Walters,” said Chesapeake’s Head Coach Dave Cottle. “His size and ability off the ball will be an added complement to the players we already have. And the icing on the cake is picking up a fourth round collegiate pick for next year, which will help us when we look to rebuild in the draft.”
Since joining Chesapeake in 2011, Steven Brooks has been an outstanding all-around player and was a big part of the team’s back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013. Selected twice to the MLL All-Star team, the midfielder has gathered 84 points on 51 goals and 26 assists in his career as a Bayhawk.
“This is one of the toughest trades I’ve ever had to make,” said Cottle. “Steven Brooks is a great teammate and an even better person. I hope this gives him the opportunity to dress the rest of the season for Florida.”
Although their time with the team was short, Earl and Hayes’ contribution was felt all the same. “David Earl played very well for us. He wasn’t here long, but he did everything the right way and is an excellent player,” said Cottle. “Jon Hayes is one of my favorite players. I wish him success the rest of the season with the Launch.”
The Bayhawks will be without Crowley and multiple starters in their upcoming Week 11 home game due to the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships beginning in Denver, Colorado on July 10th. While Chesapeake’s new addition competes for the Canadian National Team, attackman Brendan Mundorf, midfielders Matt Abbott and Dan Burns, and defensemen Jesse Bernhardt and Michael Evans will represent the U.S.
With six starters traveling to Denver, the Bayhawks have several players coming off of the injured reserve list. Returning to the lineup is midfielder Kyle Dixon, face-off specialist Adam Rand, and defenseman Brian Spallina.
