ANNAPOLIS, MD -Midfielder Michael Kimmel was named as the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Offensive Player of the Week for week four of the 2012 season. This is the second Offensive Player of the Week award for the former Johns Hopkins All-American, his first during the 2011 season also after a win in Hamilton.
After tallying only three goals in the first three games of the season, Kimmel took Hamilton by surprise and recorded a season-high six goals, including a 2-pointer, and added an assist to lead the Bayhawks to a 20-7 victory over the Nationals on Friday afternoon. He scored three of his goals in the fourth quarter as the Bayhawks outscored Hamilton 7-1. The performance also earned Kimmel Bud Light Most Valuable Player of the Game accolades.
“I thought Mike had an outstanding game’” head coach Dave Cottle said. “He plays well in Canada. Last year his best game was in Hamilton and this has been his best game so far. He shot with confidence on Friday and I think all but one were on cage.”
Kimmel is the Bayhawks’ second-leading scorer with 13 points and has scored nine goals, including one 2-pointer, and has had three assists. Throughout his career he has played in 22 games, has tallied 38 points on 24 goals, one 2-point goal, and 13 assists.
