City Lax: An Urban Lacrosse Story on ESPNU Saturday
Contact: keri.a.potts@espn.com
Saturday, May 29 at 11 p.m., ESPNU will televise a one-hour documentary City Lax: An Urban Lacrosse Story about an unlikely group of 12-year-olds from Denver’s rough, inner city who find a hint of salvation in the game of lacrosse. One is a poet. Another is a musician. One has a father who was murdered. One has a mother who is in jail. Executive producer Jake Steinfeld, founder of Major League Lacrosse, teamed up with filmmakers and Denver natives Tor Myhren and Gabriela Cowperthwaite, to capture how a simple game eases the burden of life in a violent neighborhood and the multiplicity of challenges the players and their coaches face both on and off the field. The film won the 2010 Jury Prize for Best Documentary and the Audience Award at the Sonoma International Film Festival.
ESPN’s extensive coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship – featuring all 15 games across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3.com and ESPN Mobile TV for the fourth consecutive year – will conclude this weekend with the semifinals and championship from Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium.
The semifinals Saturday, May 29 features number overall seed Virginia taking on fifth seed Duke at 6:30 p.m. and seventh-seed Cornell playing Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m.
