ANNAPOLIS, MD. – A tradition that started last year continued this year in downtown Annapolis at the second annual Ham It Up on December 20 th. The Bayhawks, McGarvey’s, and Smartlink kicked off the holidays outside McGarvey’s and gave away holiday hams to the community. Many in the area came out in the cold to take part in the festivities and celebrate the 2012 MLL championship.
The Bayhawks, McGarvey’s, and Smartlink asked individuals to sponsor holiday hams for families for a few weeks leading up to and during the event itself. Vouchers for hams had distributed throughout the week to local charities, boys and girls clubs, and senior centers. Head coach
Dave Cottle, attackmen
Ben Rubeor and
Drew Westervelt, defenseman
Dan Burns, Kyle Dixon,
Michael Kimmel and
Josh Sims, goalies
Kip Turner, and face-off specialist
JP Dalton gave away nearly 200 hams to families who brought their vouchers to McGarvey’s. The group also raffled off prizes consisting of gift cards and Bayhawks gear and gave autographs to fans.
“The second annual Ham It Up was such a great success,” Bayhawks’ owner
Brendan Kelly proclaimed. “We wanted to make it even better this year and I think we accomplished that with the addition of Santa, Hawk-Eye, and doubling the number of hams we were able to give away. We couldn’t have been so successful without our sponsors and season ticket holders who came to support us and those who donated to sponsor a ham. We thank you all very much.”
The Bayhawks look forward to continuing their dedication to giving back to the community, especially during the holidays. To learn how you can help the team give back during this season, please check out
