Long-stick midfielder Bernhardtwas the 4 th pick overall by the Bayhawks in the first round. The University of Maryland senior from Longwood, FL was a 2012 All-ACC selection, NCAA All-Tournament Team selection, and was awarded with 2 nd Team All-American honors. Over his career with the Terrapins, Bernhardt tallied 14 points and grabbed 138 ground balls. The UMD team captain is sure to being some new energy to the existing strong defensive line of the Bayhawks.
“Jesse is a great athlete and we were excited to get him in the first round,” Cottle stated. “He has high energy, great motivation, tremendous character and he will be a great leader within the team.”
With their second selection, 16 th overall, Chesapeake selected University of Maryland midfielder Kevin Cooper. Reigning from Crofton, MD, the senior standout has boasted 17 goals, 22 assists, and 28 ground balls during his 42 games with the Terrapins. Cooper was also nominated to the 2011 ACC All-Tournament Team.
The Bayhawks did not have a pick in the third round as a result of trades prior to the draft. Moorestown, NJ native and University of Delaware midfielder Dominic Sebastiani was selected in the fourth round, 32nd overall by the Bayhawks. The athletic senior tallied 6 goals, 11 assists, and 68 ground balls in 33 games with the Blue Hens.
Attackman Adrian Sorichetti from Hofstra University was selected in the 5th round, 35th overall. The Ontario, Canada native was selected to the 2010 CAA All-Rookie Team in his freshman year and netted 45 goals, 21 assists, and 21 ground balls during his collegiate career thus far.
Cottle threw a curve ball at the end of the 5th round and traded their 40th pick to Rochester for their 5th round pick in the 2014 Collegiate Draft and their 7th round pick in the 2013 Supplemental Draft. He then repeated in trading his 7th round pick (56th overall) to New York for their 7th round pick in the 2014 Collegiate Draft.Before the draft even began, Cottle traded their 8 th round pick to Rochester for attackman Jay Card (Hofstra). Card was the 18 th overall pick in the 2012 Collegiate Draft for the Lizards and was then traded to the Rattlers during the Expansion Draft.
Other important updates came out of the Collegiate Draft with the MLL announcing that Championship Weekend will take place at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. on August 24 th and 25 th.
"Championship Weekend is one of our marquee events, capping our season with the four best teams in the League," said MLL Commissioner David Gross. "The Philadelphia area is rich with lacrosse tradition and PPL Park is the perfect venue to showcase the best teams in MLL."
The weekend will begin with the semifinals on Saturday, August 24 th, followed by the final on Sunday, August 25 th. The event will also feature the MLL Fan Zone an interactive area with fun and games for lacrosse fans of all ages. PPL Park is the home of Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union and has hosted several NCAA Lacrosse games. In 2013 it will also host the inaugural Whitman's Sampler Independence Classic, a triple header Lacrosse event with six NCAA teams for a full day of lacrosse.
