Open At Home May 3rd Versus New York Lizards

ANNAPOLIS, MD. – The Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced their 2014 MLL schedule today. Chesapeake will travel to Boston to take on the Cannons for the season opener on April 26 th. The Bayhawks return for their sixth summer at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, MD with their home opener on Saturday, May 3 rd against their long time rivals the New York Lizards. The 2014 MLL regular season will consist of 14 weeks, 7 home games and 7 away games.

The Bayhawks finished the 2013 campaign as the MLL Champions for the second year in a row in a thrilling win over the Charlotte Hounds (10-9) in Philadelphia, PA. The Bayhawks went into the 2013 Championship Weekend at PPL Park with a 9-5 record and hungry to defend their title and take home the Steinfeld Trophy again. The mantra of “the chase” engrained into the team mentality by head coach Dave Cottle proved to be successful as the Bayhawks became the only franchise to hoist the trophy for the fifth time in league history.

“We are excited about our schedule this season,” Cottle stated. “Every season starts with a blank slate and we know we will have to work twice as hard this year to reach continued success on the field. It’s great for the league to be expanding to Florida and we are looking forward to having the Launch added this year. We are excited for the challenge and are ready to get started at training camp this spring.”

To start the season, Chesapeake travels to Boston for the first of two meetings with the Cannons. Chesapeake has played more games versus Boston than any team in MLL history: 34 total contests including playoffs. The Bayhawks trail 13-15 to the Cannons in regular season games and in the playoffs the Bayhawks lead 4-2. During the 2013 season, the Bayhawks and the Cannons split the series losing 15-14 on the road and winning 13-12 at home.

Again this year the Bayhawks will face the Lizards in their home opener on Saturday, May 3 rd in Annapolis where they look to add another W to the all-time series of 15-11 with the Lizards. In 2013, the Bayhawks swept the two game series but these two teams have had a long history of close and hard fought battles. The home opener will be highlighted by an exciting tailgate celebration and a post-game fireworks display, as well as more exciting events to be announced.

Next Chesapeake travels to Charlotte on Saturday, May 10 th to play the Hounds in a championship game re-match. The teams split the series last season with the Hounds winning 16-15 in Charlotte and the Bayhawks winning 16-14 in Annapolis, but the Bayhawks came out on top in the championship game.

On Saturday, May 17 th the Bayhawks will host the newly announced Florida Launch in their first of two meetings with the team. The Hamilton Nationals will not participate in the 2014 season, so the club's 23-man roster will make up the foundation of the Florida Launch.

After a league-wide bye week during Memorial Day Weekend, Chesapeake returns home on Saturday, May 31 st to take on the Ohio Machine. The Bayhawks won the series last season and look to continue that streak this season.  With just a short break, the Bayhawks travel to Rochester for their first bout with the Rattlers on Thursday, June 5 th.

The Bayhawks will then host Boston for their second meeting of the season on Saturday, June 14 th before the team heads on a three week road trip beginning in Denver on Saturday, June 21 st. The Outlaws came out on top the Bayhawks in both meetings last year and finished the regular season undefeated, but then fell to the Hounds in the semi-finals.

Included in the three week road trip is the perennial favorite All-Star game in Boston on Thursday, June 26 th where the MLL All-Stars will take on Team USA.

Immediately following the All-Star Game, the Bayhawks start the second half of their stint on the road with a trip to Palm Beach County, FL to battle the Launch for the second time on Saturday, June 28 th. A short time later, the team will head to Ohio to take on the Machine on Friday, July 4 th.

All teams in the MLL will have a bye week the second weekend in July due to the World Games.

Chesapeake will return home on Thursday, July 17 th to host the Rattlers and then ten days later will travel to New York for the second meeting with the Lizards on Sunday, July 27 th. The Bayhawks conclude the regular season at home with a game against the Outlaws on Thursday, July 31 st and then against the Hounds on Saturday, August 9 th.

This season the semifinal rounds will be played the weekend of August 16 th at the home stadium of the two higher seeds, giving the two teams with the best season record a home field advantage, and rewarding their fans with a playoff game. The Championship Game will be played August 23 rd at a location to be announced at a later date.

The Bayhawks 2014 Season Tickets are now available and can be purchased over the phone by calling the box office 866-99-HAWKS (42957). This season, the Bayhawks and Lexus are giving away an ES350 to one lucky Season Ticket Holder at the last game of the season.
