Annapolis, MD -
was named Major League Lacrosse’s (MLL) Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2011 Season. Kimmel currently ranks third in the league with 9 points in 2 games.
Kimmel, a second-year player out of Johns Hopkins, totaled six points on four goals and two assists as the Chesapeake Bayhawks beat the Nationals, 14-10, on Thursday, May 19
at Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario. Kimmel’s performance earned him the Bud Light Most Valuable Player of the game.
"I am honored to be named Offensive Player of the Week,” Kimmel stated. “I cannot give enough credit to my offensive line mates. They demand so much attention from the opposing defense that it opens up room for me."
“Michael is quickly proving why he was the #2 pick in the collegiate draft in 2010,” general manager
said. “He plays both ends of the field as well as anyone we have ever seen. It’s not often you can turn to a player and ask him to score 6 points and play the opposition’s best midfielder. Michael thrives off of it and that showed this past Thursday against Hamilton. He is a great teammate, and we are thrilled to have him.”
The Bayhawks take on the Boston Cannons next at Harvard Stadium on June 4
after a league-wide bye this weekend. The game can be viewed LIVE on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic at 7pm.
Chesapeake returns home on June 25
