Press Release: Five Bayhawks Make 23-Man Team USA Roster

ANNAPOLIS, MD – US Lacrosse announced the final roster that will compete at the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships in Denver, Colorado from July 10 th-19 th. Of the 23 MLL players chosen to the 2014 U.S. National Team, five were selected from the Chesapeake Bayhawks roster.

Representing the Bayhawks on Team USA are attackman Brendan Mundorf, midfielders Matt Abbott and Dan Burns, and defensemen Michael Evans and Jesse Bernhardt. Aside from Mundorf, this is the first time making the final roster for each player.

On offense, Mundorf (a two-time World Champion) leads Chesapeake in goals with 17 and tallies a total of 23 points with 6 assists. Abbott leads the team in groundballs (27) and has 7 points on 5 goals and 2 assists.

From the defensive end, Burns has tallied 17 ground balls over 8 games, while Bernhardt has notched 2 goals, an assist and 25 groundballs. Evans rounds out the roster with his aggressive shut down defense.

With five players chosen for the U.S. Men’s National roster, Chesapeake stands second to only the New York Lizards, who had six players selected.

Team USA, coached by Richie Meade, will head to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs July 6 th-9 th for their final training camp. They play in the opening game of the World Championships at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver, CO July 10 th against Canada.

A record 38 nations will participate in this year’s World Championships, with the U.S. competing in the Blue Division, featuring the top six teams from the 2010 FIL World Championship. The remaining eight divisions are made up of four teams each.
