Seven Bayhawks Make 2012 All-Star Rosters

March 18, 2016
ANNAPOLIS, MD – In its 12 th year, the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star Game will be held at a neutral location at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida on Saturday, June 30 th, 2012. Of the 40 MLL players chosen to the 2012 All-Star rosters, 7 were selected from Chesapeake’s roster, the most of any other team in the league.  Returning to the All-Star Game this year is the “Young Guns vs. Old School” format, in which MLL veterans will compete against players who entered the league in 2009 or later.

Representing the Bayhawks for the Young Guns will be midfielder Ben Huntand defenseman Mike Evans. This is Hunt’s second and Evans’ third All-Star appearance. Hunt has tallied 12 points on 10 goals and one two-pointer this season and Evans has continued to be a leader on the defensive line.

Facing off with the Old School team will be attackman Drew Westervelt, midfielders Steven Brooksand Kyle Dixon, and defensemen Nicky Polancoand Brian Spallina. This will be Westervelt’s 3 rd All-Star nomination and he has brought that star power to Chesapeake this season with 10 goals and 7 assists. Brooks has enhanced the already dangerous offensive line this season and is second on the roster in points with 18. Dixon has been on the All-Star roster four times already and this year is no exception with his record breaking performances. The midfielder currently holds the MLL record for two-point career goals with 39. New to the Bayhawks roster but no strangers to the All-Star game, Polanco and Spallina have made their presence known by shutting down high scoring opponents this season to help the Bayhawks to first place standings.

The MLL All-Star Game is the league’s marquee event and consistently draws large crowds to watch the world’s top lacrosse talent compete on a single field. It is home to the league’s Bud Light Skills Competition, in which players showcase specialty skills that wouldn’t be seen during regular games. This year’s MLL All-Star Game is a Palm Beach County Tourist Development Council funded project, supported by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
