November 23, 2011
On a dreary Tuesday in November, the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) were able to bring some light to a large group of hungry Baltimore residents. Attackmen Danny Glading, Ben Rubeor, and Drew Westervelt, owner and head coach Brendan Kelly and assistant coach Dave Cottle volunteered their time at Our Daily Bread serving lunch to those less fortunate in the city.

“The Bayhawks were thrilled to jump in and lend a hand during the Thanksgiving season,” said Kelly. “Those who are fortunate enough to have the simplest necessities, such as food to feed their families, should always give to those who are not as lucky. We pride ourselves on giving back to the community and volunteering at Our Daily Bread was a great experience.”

Our Daily Bread is a hot meal program in Maryland which serves over 250,000 meals a year to the hungry in Baltimore City. The organization is open 365 days of the year for lunch for the needy. It is also open on weekdays for breakfast for seniors and those suffering from disabilities. The volunteer manager Doris Franz-Poling was very excited to have the Bayhawks there to help during the lunch shift.

“Today at Our Daily Bread we enjoyed the volunteer efforts of the Bayhawks lacrosse team members,” Doris said.  “Players helped to serve the poor and most vulnerable in Baltimore City. Thanks to their efforts we served well over 600 guests a hot nourishing meal, providing the dignity of full table service.  Team members helped with serving bread, desserts, cleaning tables and serving tea. Many thanks for their generous efforts at this holiday season.”

The Bayhawks look forward to continuing their dedication to giving back to the community, especially during the holidays. To learn how you can help the team give back during this season, please check out www.thebayhawks.comfor all of their holiday initiatives.
